Multi-Disciplinary
ArtistCares
"In response to the
September 11th
tragedy, Alan Lynes, Deputy Director of Programming at the Jamaica Center
[Queens, New York] for Arts & Learning initiated ArtistCares. Our mission
is to serve community needs in times of crisis and to promote healing through
creative expression. Within days, creative artists from all major
disciplines as well as public relations, marketing, and mental health
professionals were mobilized, and ArtistCares began to evolve. Responses from
city, state, national and international arts and professional organizations
poured in. People even offered to take leaves of absence from their jobs to
come and work on the project!"
Theatre and Sept. 11th:
Theater
and Terrorism -- By Bill Marx
This is a really
well written article on the choices facing the theatre community in the
aftermath of September 11th 2001. "Theaters will either attempt to
grapple seriously with what has happened or they will continue to serve up
more forgetful escapism or left-wing platitudes."

Fighting Terrorism
This is a very
free-wheeling website which centers on a gallery of "posters"
designed by graphic artists around the world. Be forewarned that not all
messages offered through this artwork is agreeable or politically correct to
all viewers. There is actually quite a variety of work, both in style and
message presented.

Interview with
Julie Taymor and Bill T Jones on the Aftermath of September 11th 2001
This is a rather interesting and extensive interview with two geniuses of
the theatre and dance worlds. The interview came just days after September
11th. It is an excellent discussion of art in the context of astonishing world
events.
