Therapies Associations (NCATA)
The National Coalition of Arts Therapies Associations (NCATA),
founded in 1979, is an alliance of professional associations dedicated to
the advancement of the arts as therapeutic modalities. NCATA represents over
8000 individual members of six creative arts therapies associations. The
page offers links to the various discipline-specific therapy organizations
as well.

Arts (Formerly called Very Special Arts)
Very Special Arts is a major pioneer in the
field of integration of the disabled and arts communities. With chapters and
centers around the world, this is a very important organization. The website
provides links to the statewide chapters as well as many of the
international centers. Chapters at the more local level do not seem to be
linked, however one would presume that one could find local resources via
the regional links which are provided.

Richard
Attenborough Centre for Disability and the Arts
Based in Leicester, England, The new
Richard Attenborough Centre for Disability and the Arts was opened by Diana,
Princess of Wales on 27th May 1997. The Centre is open to all, with its
focus is people with disabilities and other members of the public who have
previously found access to arts education difficult.

HAI provides access to the arts to New Yorkers who are
isolated from the cultural mainstream. HAI service recipients include people
with mental and physical disabilities, mentally retarded/developmentally
disabled persons, bed-confined/wheelchair-users, hearing/sight-impaired
persons, the homeless, the frail elderly, youth at risk, participants in
substance abuse programs, persons with HIV/AIDS and individuals in
correctional facilities.
NAEMI

too." NAEMI is a non profit organization devoted to increasing public
awareness and understanding about art created by persons who have
experienced mental illness.The website includes a nice online art gallery.
National
Forum on Careers in the Arts for People with Disabilities
This website comes from a 1998 conference held at The
John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC. The page
includes concept papers as well as the text of the keynote address.
Nuvisions for
Disabled Artists, Inc
Established in 1984, Nuvisions
encourages artists with physical disabilities by providing exhibition and
educational opportunities, as well as the shared sensitivity and emotional
support needed for personal and professional growth. Programs include group
exhibitions, artists' dialogues, workshops, demonstrations and access to a
variety of art, marketing and transportation resources adapted to individual
needs. While exhibitions are limited to artists with physical disabilities,
membership is open to all art lovers, creating an environment conductive to
creativity, collaboration and success. Nuvisions serves the Southeastern
Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey area.
Project Ability
Project Ability is a developmental visual arts organization
working to promote equality of access to the arts for all those who are
marginalized within the community. The organization, based in Glasgow,
Scotland, has over fifteen years experience of developing arts activities
with people of all ages who have disabilities or mental illness, elderly
people, members of minority communities and socially disadvantaged people.

This website is produced by a collective of
four women suffering from chronic pain. They produce their art as part of
the theraputic process....and exciting art it is! This may be one of the
most beautiful sites on the internet and it shows what can be done in the
web art medium. The site is image intensive though so it may be slow loading
on your computer.
Worth the wait though.
