1593 Shakespeare writes Romeo & Juliet
1839 Romeo & Juliet composed as a dramatic symphony by Berlioz
1867 Romeo & Juliet composed as an opera by Gunod
1869 Romeo & Juliet Composed as a symphonic poem by Tchaikovsky
Apr. 23 1891 Sergei Sergeievich Prokofiev is born in the Ukraine
1910 Galina Ulanova, Prokofiev's Juliet is born in St. Petersburg
1811 An early ballet treatment of Romeo & Juliet is produced in Denmark with choreography by Vincenzo Galeotti, considered to be The Royal Danish Ballet's first important ballet master and choreographer.
1920-1932 Prokofiev lives in Paris
1924 Death of Lenin. St. Petersburg renamed as Leningrad
Oct. 1929 Prokofiev in a car crash. It takes two months for his hands to heal

1938 Prokofiev lobbies theatres in Czechoslovakia, France, Britain, Russia, and the US for the opportunity to mount a full production of Romeo & Juliet
Dec 30 1938 Romeo & Juliet premieres in Brno Czechoslovakia
1938 Prokofiev travels to Hollywood to observe and study the process of film making. He later shares his knowledge while working with the great Russian cinematographer Eisenstein
1938 Debut of Eisenstein's Alexander Nevsky with score by Prokofiev.
Jan. 11 1940 Debut of Romeo & Juliet at the Kirov Theatre in Leningrad, Choreography by Levrovsky
April 6 1943 Ballet Theatre, now the American Ballet Theatre stages an incomplete one act version of Romeo & Juliet with music by Delius, Choreography by Anthony Tudor, sets and costumes by Eugene Berman.
1944 A short version of Romeo & Juliet is staged by Brigit Cullberg in Sweeden
1945 Prokofiev suffers from a mild heart attack and in a fall down a flight of stairs suffers a more severe concussion. He never fully recovers.
Dec. 22 1946 Romeo & Juliet Produced as a revival by The Bolshoi Theatre
1948 The Soviet Union formally condemns it's major composers including Prokofiev
1951 In a moment of irony, the Stalin Prize is awarded to Prokofiev.
1953 Stalin dies
Mar. 5 1953 Prokofiev Dies (Note he dies in the same year as Stalin
1954 Bolshoi production of Romeo & Juliet is filmed
1955 Romeo & Juliet First seen in the West in a production in London by the Zagreb ballet
May 19 1955 Frederick Ashton stages Romeo & Juliet for The Royal Danish Ballet
Dec. 29 1955 The Paris ballet produces Romeo & Juliet with choreography by Serge Lifar
1956 The Bolshoi Ballet presents Romeo & Juliet in London with the original Juliet, Galina Ulanova, then in her 40s. (performed to critical acclaim)
Sept 26 1956 Ashton's Royal Danish Ballet production of Romeo & Juliet is presented in New York City
1957 West Side Story Staged by Leonard Bernstein, Jerome Robbins and Stephen Sondheim.
Jul. 26 1958 Cranko stages Romeo & Juliet for La Scala in Milan
1958 The composer condemnation of 1948 is officially rescinded
Apr 16 1959 Romeo & Juliet presented in America by The Bolshoi Ballet, with Ulanova as Juliet.
Dec. 2 1962 Cranko restages Romeo & Juliet for a now famous production in Stuttgart
1962 Galina Ulanova officially retires as a dancer.
Feb. 9 1965 The Royal Ballet stages Romeo & Juliet with choreography by Keneth McMillan and performaces by Fonteyn and Nureyev.
Apr. 21 1965 The Royal Ballet production of Romeo & Juliet Produced in America
1966 Royal Ballet version of Romeo & Juliet is filmed
1969 Igor Tchernichov attempts to stage a version of Romeo & Juliet with music by Berlioz in The Soviet Union but the ballet is banned. The cast was to have included Mikhail Baryshnikov and Natalia Makarova
1976 The Bolshoi production of Romeo & Juliet is filmed for Television.
1976 Romeo & Juliet staged by The San Francisco Ballet
1977 Nureyev stages Romeo & Juliet for The London Festival Ballet
